Helping technology businesses
secure international protection for
their intellectual property
> Introduction
The world has changed - accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic. From this, came opportunities to leave behind antiquated systems and ways of working.
And so I established my company, Elkiner, to give me full control over how I deliver my patent services to my clients.
For over 18 years, I have been helping technology businesses make the most of their Intellectual Property.
Kaya Elkiner
UK & European Patent Attorney
> Business model
My business model is all about providing high-value access to my expertise. I use technology to increase efficiency of operations and communication and I've minimised my overheads by having no support staff, or juniors to train, or ostentatious real-estate to pay for.
My clients get top-tier, partner-level advice and assistance without the associated price tag. They also get the same protections as they would expect with a top-tier law firm: Elkiner is regulated by the Intellectual Property Regulation Board with an accompanying multi-million pound indemnity insurance policy.
I am proud to have a business that thrives almost entirely on recommendations. This is the main reason why I don't advertise or publicly list my telephone number.
I have an extensive network of trusted professionals and service providers in the UK and overseas to provide specialist functions and the strength of numbers, if and when needed.
The company is named after me to reflect the bespoke service my clients receive. The worth of any professional services depends on the quality of the professional delivering them. When my clients need my help, they are assured that it is my expertise that they are receiving - not that of a junior.
> History
Prior to founding Elkiner, I spent over five years as the Head of Patents for the law firm, Ashfords LLP. The grand majority of my clients have followed me to my new company.
Before that, I was a director of intellectual property firm, Keltie LLP (8 years). I started out at the firm now known as Cleveland Scott York (4 years). In 2008 I passed the rigorous exams needed to become a Chartered Patent Attorney under UK law, and a European Patent Attorney under the European Patent Convention. This builds on my Certificate in Intellectual Property law from Queen Mary University of London, 2004.
My professional credentials as a UK (Chartered) Patent Attorney can be independently verified on the Intellectual Property Regulation Board's website. The European Patent Office website can be used to check my status as a European Patent Attorney.
Prior to entering the patent profession, I qualified from Warwick University with a Master degree in Computer Systems Engineering that spanned the disciplines of computer science, electronics and engineering.
My technical background underpins my ability to fully understand my client's technologies, and so comprehensively obtain exclusive patent protection for them.
